Its been a busy few weeks, but things are finally settling down for the newlyweds. We got Matt graduated (YEA!) and had a really great dinner with his family afterwards. We got all three of our high school graduations (Jenna’s brother & 2 cousins) finished. We have also packed up and moved out of our teeny-tiny one bedroom apartment in College Station and are just about completely settled in a much larger, much nicer apartment in Houston. Sadly, we will only be here for a few months before we head back to College Station for school and work in the fall. Matt is working on an internship for an engineering firm here in Houston (hence us moving here) and Jenna will be enjoying the next few months off of school (laying out by the pool, shopping, and being a nanny). In our whirlwind of the last few weeks, we’ve gotten 4 people graduated and have also enjoyed a 5 day honeymoon to Jamaica. The resort was beautiful, the food was good, and the beaches…amazing. It wasn’t as sunny was we were hoping, but what do you expect with summertime in the tropics? It was a great week (minus Jenna getting deathly ill one night…it lasted a good week or two once we got home), but we were glad to be home. Finally things have settled down for us…only 2 more events on the calendar for the summer…a wedding next weekend in Beaumont and our honeymoon #2 to New York City in August right before school starts back up. Updates should be more frequent since Jenna is home all day…stay tuned!
Well, Matt and I are eleven days into our marriage and things couldn’t be better! For those who are wondering, the wedding was absolutely perfect! For the most part, things went smoothly, with only a couple of minor problems…but hey, now we’ve got great memories and in the grand scheme of things none of it mattered because at the end of the night, we still got married. Everyone seemed to have had a really great time and we are so glad our friends and family were able to share our special day with us.
The weekend was kicked off with the ever important rehearsal and then we all had a fantastic fajita dinner at Rudy’s Grill and Cantina in Houston. Good food and good company, what could be better? We got to show off Matt’s mad slideshow skills and he even managed to bring most of my family to tears with my baby pictures. We gave gifts to our wedding party and then heard a couple of very touching speeches from Kyle and Cortney (our best man & maid of honor). Saturday (the wedding day!) got off to an early start for the girls as we all gathered for breakfast and a lingerie shower at Hearthstone Country Club. The day continued with decorating the church and country club and the girls spent most of the day pampering themselves in preparation for the big night! The ceremony was perfect, exactly what I dreamed it would be and I couldn’t have picked a better person to sing at the wedding than my cousin Rachel. It was her first time to sing in front of a group by herself and it was AMAZING! The Reception was gorgeous, my mom and aunts did a great job decorating and our cakes were incredible. My mom and aunt Beth are amazing cake decorators. The food was good, the music was good, and the company was great, but after a couple of hours or so, Matt and I had had enough, so we headed to the Marriott in downtown Houston. The hotel was great, the room was nice, but the valet…well, he was an idiot. Oh well…something to laugh about now!
Now that we’re back in good ‘ol College Station, life is back to “normal”. We are now packed into a one-bedroom apartment like sardines…but thankfully only for a couple of more weeks. It was straight back to work and school once the wedding weekend was over. Matt has finished finals (YEA!) and will graduate Friday afternoon and we are so excited for him. I’ve still got a couple more weeks of school left, but summer is QUICKLY approaching. We’ve got a busy few weeks ahead of us, but its going to be LOTS of fun! We leave on Saturday for one of my cousins high school graduations in Beaumont and then we leave bright and early Sunday morning (takeoff is 6:00 AM)for SUNNY JAMAICA! We are spending 5 days at the Sandals Resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica and just a few short hours after arriving back in the states, we will set out for a little taste of West Texas for my brother’s high school graduation in Abilene. The last full week of May will be spent with Jenna giving finals at school and then packing up the apartment for a brief summer stay in Houston. We will spend one more weekend in Beaumont at the end of May for the last graduation (another one of my cousins) and also that weekend…although we aren’t sure exactly how this will work…we will be moving into our new apartment in Houston. Finally, things calm down once Memorial Day hits because Matt starts his summer internship at LAN in Houston on the 29th of May. Phew, just thinking about all of that makes me tired. We are both ready for summer and for things to calm down so we can plan our trip to NYC in August!
Matt and I couldn’t be happier to FINALLY be together forever and we hope everyone will take a look at our wedding pictures. I’ll post a few on here and then of course there will be Jamaica pictures (thanks to the new camera we just bought!) as soon as we get home.
