The Number 5…

The Number 5…

5 – the number of days per week I wake up at the crack of dawn

5 – the number of salads I eat in an average week

5 – the number of granola bars I eat in an average week

5 – the number of jars of coffee on my kitchen counter

5 – the minimum number of sonic drinks I consume in a week

5 – the number of people in my house when I was little

BUT…right now…at this very moment, Wednesday, May 21…the greatest thing about the number 5 is…

that’s the number of days left of school until SUMMER VACATION!

Hurricane Preparedness Checklist???

Hurricane Preparedness Checklist???

So tonight at Academy, we picked up a hurricane preparedness checklist.  Inside is a foldout hurricane tracking chart.  Let me confess something to you before this goes on much farther…I pickup this thing up mainly for a good laugh…I think my goofy husband was half way serious about the list.  As we were driving out of the parking lot, I was reading the list of “necessary” supplies for hurricane survival and yes, I was getting my good laugh.  Not far into reading the list out loud, Matt stops me and says, “you know…this is something I would actually put together for hurricane season”.  I think my jaw hit the floor…surely he is kidding…surely…surely.  I proceed to remind my sweet, darling husband that I lived not more than about 30 or 45 miles from the beach for 18 years of my life and NEVER, NOT ONCE did we EVER put together a hurricane preparedness kit.  I specifically remember hearing that a hurricane or tropical storm was coming in somewhere close and we would actually drive to the beach…yes you read that right…to the beach to watch the furious waters and feel the howling winds.  In fact…we look forward to June 1st every year because thats the beginning of hurricane season…you see…its something that I totally look forward to.  Now don’t get me wrong…I do not enjoy the death and destruction that comes with the powerful storms, but the excitement of watching them grow and the anticipation of landfall is just so cool to me.  I know…I’m weird.  I am secretly depressed every year on November 30 because hurricane season is officially over.  But no…absolutely no way will I ever keep a hurricane kit in my house…I might be obsessive compulsive…but thats too much for me.  Oh how funny you are, my dear husband.

Now I’m Content…

Now I’m Content…
So I know I said it before, but now I think I’m content with the new layout on our blog. I guess I must be a difficult girl to please because I must have tried a thousand different layouts.

Alrighty…so now for our weekend. Friday night was a good night. Because town was crazy with people in for graduation, Matt and I decided to have dinner at a local pizzeria since we figured it wouldn’t be swamped with celebrating families. The pizza was great and afterwards we headed home to relax. It was a pretty nice evening at home. Saturday we did absolutely nothing for most of the day and it was absolutely wonderful. I didn’t even make it out of my pjs and into the shower until almost 4:00 Saturday afternoon….thats a big deal for me…I never do that! Quite honestly, the only reason I even got out of my pjs is because we had a wedding to go to. Jeff and Katie got married Saturday evening at the church here in College Station and it was so great. It was so different and non-traditional but it was so personal and intimate. It was so totally Jeff & Katie and I’m so glad they got what they wanted. Sunday morning we got up and drove to Houston to celebrate Mother’s Day with Matt’s family. It was great to spend the day with his mom and grandmother and celebrate how much they mean to Matt and now how special they are to me. After lunch and visiting, Matt and I headed back home to get our groceries for the week and get dinner ready. We had a great dinner with Zach and Molly Sunday evening and then it was time to get ready for the new week.

This is kind of a sad week for us. Its a week we knew was quickly approaching, but now that its here, its kinda sad. This week most of our friends are leaving College Station to move on with life. Zach & Molly are headed back to Dallas this weekend, but luckily we will get to see them in August when we go for Cortney & Brandon’s wedding. Sam isn’t gone yet…still a few more weeks with him. Kyle is headed back to Colorado for the summer and then…who knows… Luckily for us, Jeff & Katie will be here so we won’t be completely lonely this summer. With everybody except Jeff & Katie leaving College Station, it makes it somewhat easier to leave for Houston this summer, but its still bittersweet.

So far, this has been an ok week…Matt got his car back from the body shop after he got hit a few weeks ago…we said goodbye to the fantastic Ford Fusion this morning. It was not difficult at all to say goodbye to that piece of garbage on wheels. I got brave this afternoon and had my hair cut and highlighted here in town. I’ve been driving to Houston to get my hair done, but I just decided it was crazy to spend all of that money, so I found somebody here to do it. I’ll admit…I was kinda nervous about it, but it turned out really good. She was so much faster than the lady in Houston and considerably cheaper…all good things in my book! I didn’t get much cut off the length, just enough to fix the layers and shape it all up…the main thing was getting the highlights fixed. I was WAY overdue for a touch-up. I was most worried about the highlights but they turned out great. Even Matt commented on how good they look! I’m heading to Abilene this weekend to hang out with my mom and get the invitations done for Cortney’s bridal shower. It should be a great weekend…I’m so excited. Hopefully I will get to see my dad and brother before they leave for the weekend. Alright…this is already way too long and I’m up way past my bedtime! Goodnight everyone, have a good rest of the week!

Saturday Morning Radomness…

Saturday Morning Radomness…

What I was doing 10 years ago…Sunday, May 10th, 1998…10:31 AM…I was 14 years old and I was probably at church.  I was finishing up my 8th grade year at Beaumont Christian…or wait…I think we were known as Christian Heritage Academy by that point.

Five things on my to-do list for today…1.  Laundry  2.  Wrap Mother’s Day gifts  3.  Pick up around the house  4.  Jeff & Katie’s wedding tonight  5.  Clean out the refrigerator.

Things I would do if I were a billionaire…Buy us a house & possibly a beach house for my whole family…Take my whole family on a vacation…Buy 2 new cars…Pay off our school loans…Invest some in our future and for our children (who don’t exist yet…).

Three of my bad habits…biting my nails, procrastination, drinking way too many cokes

Five places I have lived…Beaumont, TX…Stowell, TX…Abilene, TX…College Station, TX…Houston, TX

Five jobs I have had…Nanny for 4 kids…Resident Assistant, Nelson Hall, ACU…Academy Sports & Outdoors…10th grade teacher…Babysitting my cousin last summer

I Think I’m Content…

I Think I’m Content…

After wavering between a few different new designs for the blog…I think I’m content.  I found several that I really like…but they were “too girly” and I guess since this is our blog not my blog, I have to be considerate.

Alot of the blogs I read…aka stalk…have started blogging about their love stories.  Its kinda neat to read about how people met and fell in love and got to where they are today.  I’m thinking about writing our love story.  I think its a pretty neat story…hopefully you will too.  Don’t get too anxious…it might be a day or two before it gets posted.

Have a good rest of the week!

Whirlwind of a Weekend

Whirlwind of a Weekend

Wow…what a weekend.  It seems like every single weekend we are busier than before.  This weekend was no exception.  I finally finished TAKS testing at school on Friday and just as promised…I had a BIG smile on my face by about 1:00.  Friday night we had everybody over to our house for dinner.  We grilled burgers, chicken, and sausages.  It was great to hang out with everybody…it seems like it had been a while.  Saturday morning things got busy.  The alarm sounded very early…7:00 A.M….and Matt and I were off to look for a house in Houston.  We got to Houston and the search began.  We looked at 11 or 12 houses from about 10:00 to 12:30…it was a busy busy day.  We found 3 houses that we really really like, but we’ve still got a few weeks until we are ready to make an offer on something.  Its getting so close, though.  I’m excited about being back in Houston and really starting our life.  I haven’t heard anything about jobs yet…still playing the waiting game.  Also while we were in Houston we ventured to a bridal shop as I am shopping for a dress for a wedding this summer.  I found a couple…but nothing I’m completely sold on.  Saturday was a long day…in retrospect we definitely should have spent the night in Houston Friday night and then our day wouldn’t have felt so long.  Oh well….we lived.  Sunday was a pretty low key day…just the usual church, then lunch, and laundry, grocery store, and the trip to Target.  Sunday night I did dinner for everybody again and our fajitas were a hit…there was NOTHING left!  My favorite kind of meal!

Today was a work day at school…no kiddos…it was nice to get some stuff done after such a hectic couple of weeks preparing for TAKS.  The countdown to summer vacation is definitely in full force…just a few more weeks before 3 months of pure bliss.  Sadly my 3 months of pure bliss will once again be consumed by packing, moving, & then unpacking…except this time…its for good!

Well…have a good week…we will keep you posted on the search for a house.  Don’t forget…Sunday is Mother’s Day.
